I've been really interested in following the GOP candidates debates from the get go. One man in particular has really stuck out to me and it isn't because of his appearance or what he does in his free time, it's because of his ideas and what he has to say. Herman Cain had been at the receiving end of a lot of media bashing lately because of stories popping up about sexual harassment in his past. It started with some reporter digging up a story about two women that had filed complaints about him during his time working at the National Restaurant Association. Then two more women came out and accused him of the same thing over a decade ago during the same time. However, as soon as he hired a defamation lawyer, those stories seemed to fade away rather quickly. The newest accuser of Mr. Cain is a woman he has known for many years that he has called a "close friend" and she saying the had an extramarital affair lasting over a course of 13 years. All of this has made him go back and to use his term "reassess" his campaign and whether or not he should continue. Here's my issue with it all: this man is not running for prom king, whatever happened, or didn't happen, in the past in completely irrelevant. I don't know whether there is any truth to any of these women's stories or not. I'd like to think it is all false because I really like his ideas on how to fix the economy and his business-style approach to fixing the nation's biggest issues. Before the media turned into what we know it as now there was a certain respect granted to public figures by the media to leave their private lives private. That is how it should be, but it seems that is a fantasy that will never be true again. Let the man run his campaign and judge him on his ideas to better our country instead of whatever story TMZ comes out with next.

Broadcast Buddies
The job market sucks for everyone these days and it can be hard and discouraging to find anything related to a college grads field of study. However, there are some bright spots out there if you are willing to look around. I found a website called b-roll.net, and they make the job finding process much, much easier. Not only is their homepage a list of available broadcasting positions, but they have multiple pages including one called "tips/tricks", that help people hone their skills. Not only that but they have a discussion board where you can go talk with people with similar interests and gain knowledge from hearing other broadcasters personal experience. Here's the link to the site:

Why Politics Suck
Just recently I have discovered something about myself: I love complaining. OK that isn't completely true I've known this for a while. Usually my belly aching involves things I don't agree with or are too lazy to do, but now something else has caught my attention. The way our President and the Republican party interacts is like a bad high school drama. Being a broadcasting major, I tend to watch the news or read articles online, and these days it's impossible not to hear one side complaining about the other. The most recent example of why nothing important will ever get accomplished between the disgustingly bipartisan parties is really pretty funny. The Republican Presidential candidates have a debate scheduled for next Wednesday, September 8th. They'll probably get together and instead or debating with each other they will stand there and talk about what a poor job the President is doing. Claiming that he had no knowledge of this debate, Obama scheduled a congressional hearing the same night. It's like someone got their feelings hurt because they didn't get invited to the cool kid party. Speaker John Boehner then wrote a nasty note to the President and passed it to him between classes, saying that it wasn't fair of him to do that. So Obama took the high road and rescheduled the hearing. The press ate the whole mini drama up and attempted to blow it out of proportion like usual, and now Democrats and Republicans have something else to fight about. How about both sides grow up and act like adults?
