I've been really interested in following the GOP candidates debates from the get go. One man in particular has really stuck out to me and it isn't because of his appearance or what he does in his free time, it's because of his ideas and what he has to say. Herman Cain had been at the receiving end of a lot of media bashing lately because of stories popping up about sexual harassment in his past. It started with some reporter digging up a story about two women that had filed complaints about him during his time working at the National Restaurant Association. Then two more women came out and accused him of the same thing over a decade ago during the same time. However, as soon as he hired a defamation lawyer, those stories seemed to fade away rather quickly. The newest accuser of Mr. Cain is a woman he has known for many years that he has called a "close friend" and she saying the had an extramarital affair lasting over a course of 13 years. All of this has made him go back and to use his term "reassess" his campaign and whether or not he should continue. Here's my issue with it all: this man is not running for prom king, whatever happened, or didn't happen, in the past in completely irrelevant. I don't know whether there is any truth to any of these women's stories or not. I'd like to think it is all false because I really like his ideas on how to fix the economy and his business-style approach to fixing the nation's biggest issues. Before the media turned into what we know it as now there was a certain respect granted to public figures by the media to leave their private lives private. That is how it should be, but it seems that is a fantasy that will never be true again. Let the man run his campaign and judge him on his ideas to better our country instead of whatever story TMZ comes out with next.
